Co-wash Your Hair in 3 Easy Steps

Cowash Your Hair in 3 Easy Steps

Co-washing, or “washing” your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo, is a great way to keep coarse type 4 hair moisturized.

The traditional shampoos that line the shelves of the beauty aisle in most drug stores and beauty supplies contain sulfates and other ingredients that leave hair dry.

The truth is that the same ingredients that cause your shampoo to produce lather are the same ones that are sucking the moisture out of your hair.

When you co-wash you're boosting your hair’s moisture level.

Here’s how to co-wash:

Step 1:

Part your hair into four sections going from ear to ear and from the center of the forehead to the nape of the neck.

Step 2:

Apply conditioner generous amounts of conditioner to each section of your hair.

Step 3:

Comb conditioner through each section from root to tip for even distribution then braid or twist.

Step 4:

Cover your hair with a shower cap, plastic bag or plastic covering of your choice to seal in your body heat.

Tip: Finger detangle before co-washing to eliminate knots and tangles and don’t leave the conditioner in for more than 1 hour.
