Sweet Almond Oil for Type 4 Natural Hair

*Allergy Alert: Sweet almond oil should not be used by individuals who suffer from allergies to nuts.

Sweet almond oil is a natural oil derived from the nut of the sweet almond plant. These nuts, generally known as almonds, originated in the Middle East and are used widely across the globe for cooking and baking and are often eaten raw or roasted.

The oil of almonds is used as a skin moisturizer, in a wide range of cosmetics, and as a cancer treatment among many other uses.

According to TheDermatologyReview.com, oil is extracted from almonds using the cold press method which means the oil is minimally processed and that very little heat is used during the extraction process.

Sweet almond oil (also sold as simply “almond oil”) is made from uncooked almonds. The cold press oil extraction method helps to preserve the vitamins, minerals and other chemical compounds found naturally within the oil.

Sweet almond oil works well for type 4 natural hair because it contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and Vitamin E. It also contains high quantities of plant sterols, potassium and magnesium in addition to having a fatty acid profile not found in many other oils.

Sweet almond oil can be used to strengthen weak hair or applied directly to the scalp to treat dandruff. Mix it with tea tree or neem oil and apply to the scalp to help increase circulation.
