9 Steps to Reverse Age Related Hair Loss

At 38, I thought my biggest beauty dilemma was fighting the fine lines that were starting to flaunt themselves upon my still youthful, but aging face. Face cream, the simple solution. With so many choices in today’s world of vanity, it’s almost a non-issue.

So, you might be able to imagine, the heart stopping moment, when I realized that my once luscious locks were vanishing into thin hair! It had become obvious that the root of my problem was my body’s demand for better attention to my overall health.

A quick glance in the mirror one evening showed that the crown of my head was quickly becoming the thinnest of them all. How did this happen? I quickly decided to take action. Now I understood, the desired crown on my princess head was never that of jewels, but of long, flowing tussles.

Through online research, I discovered a reported one-third of all women experience some sort of Alopecia (hair loss) within their lifetime and that this is no longer just a subject for your dad, brother, or husband.

This sudden and dramatic, personal moment in a women’s world of anti-aging can change her life as she knows it. While she may find herself crying on the outside to the girl she no longer recognizes, her body has just started its cry from within for the attention of the woman who has the power to intelligently regain control of her body’s properly functioning health.

Hair thinning/loss affects women of all ages, so if you find yourself among them, realize you are not alone. Understanding the steps that can be taken to correct the issue was a defining moment in my life and has changed me, for the better, forever. You can triumph in the battle of hair salvation by taking the following steps and talking with your doctor:

(1) Get tested for hormones and thyroid issues

(2) Discuss current medications (maybe one is the culprit)

(3) Vitamin deficiencies (lack of iron and zinc can cause hair loss)

(4) Eat more protein

(5) Start using protein enhanced shampoos

(6) Implement organic hair products into your routine

(7) Led hair tools (The Star Wars Lightsaber makes sense now!)

(8) Protect your scalp from the sun (wear hats, scarves)

(9) Be gentle when styling your hair

For me, visiting the doctor helped me to eliminate certain possible health issues. However, I did learn that vitamin supplements can be the answer to successful hair regrowth. I started a daily regimen consisting of a multi-vitamin, zinc, Co-Q10, Evening Primrose Oil, and Hair La Vie.

Author, Mary Shannon, included, what I thought was beneficial information, regarding the Evening Primrose Oil supplement, in an article she wrote at About.com, Hair Loss Solutions For Thyroid Patients:

According to endocrinologist, Dr. Kenneth Blanchard:

For hair loss, I routinely recommend multiple vitamins, and especially Evening Primrose Oil. If there’s any sex pattern to it – if a woman is losing hair in partly a male pattern – then, the problem is there is excessive conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) at the level of the hair follicle. Evening Primrose Oil is an inhibitor of that conversion. So almost anybody with hair loss probably will benefit from Evening Primrose Oil.

Let’s face it, losing hair can be demoralizing to a women’s persona. We all want the option to let our full, beautiful hair down whenever we want to. Educating ourselves on how to treat our bodies better through diligent health practices, which may be medications for some and supplements for others, will definitely keep us all ahead of the hair loss challenge.
